The Science: How Does a Chemical Peel Work?
Your skin is constantly busy. It naturally produces new skin cells in its deep layers and pushes old, dead cells to the surface. This cycle usually takes about 28 days.

Because these peels go deeper, they require a bit of healing time. Your skin will likely look red (like a mild sunburn) and flake or peel for about 3 to 7 days after the treatment.
Common acids used:
Trichloroacetic Acid ($C_2HCl_3O_2$, also known as TCA): A stronger acid that is highly effective at remodeling skin tissue.
Glycolic Acid at higher concentrations (usually $30\%$ to $50\%$).

3. Deep Peels
Deep peels are serious medical procedures. They penetrate deep into the lower layers of the dermis to completely reset severely damaged skin.
Because deep peels are so strong, they can be painful and require local anesthesia or sedation. The healing process is intense, often taking several weeks, and the skin must be carefully bandaged.
Common acids used:
Phenol ($C_6H_5OH$): A very strong chemical compound used for dramatic skin reconstruction.
Important Safety Tip: In hot and sunny tropical climates like Malaysia, doctors rarely recommend deep Phenol peels. This is because intense sun exposure on newly healing, deep layers of skin can actually cause severe, permanent dark patches (hyperpigmentation).
Best for: Severe sun damage, deep scars, and major wrinkles.
